A community school in the Okere constituency, Eastern Region, has received a significant boost through the efforts of Jodeb Foundation, a non-governmental organization committed to enhancing quality basic education in rural communities.
The two-unit classroom block of the Otareso Community School, originally built by Hon. Daniel Kweku Botwe, Member of Parliament for the area, required a much-needed facelift. Recognizing the importance of a conducive learning environment, Jodeb Foundation listed the school among its priority projects for renovation and support.
A Commitment to Quality Education
At a handing-over ceremony on Saturday, Mr. Enoch Quaye, Project Lead at Jodeb Foundation, highlighted the project as one of the organization’s largest undertakings.
“This is even more important to help give our children the best start in life and improve their academics. A conducive classroom and school design help children to understand with ease what is being taught.” – Mr. Enoch Quaye
He emphasized that the project was a collaborative effort, involving the foundation, its partners, and the local community. He urged community members to take good care of the renovated structure to ensure its long-term benefits for students and teachers.
“By the grace of God, the project is complete. The school now has a new look, educational materials, playing items, school bags, Friday wear, eating bowls, and more. It is now up to the community to maintain it. When you upgrade an existing building, you ensure not only improved school facilities but also better academic performance.” – Mr. Quaye
He further encouraged parents to support their children’s education, ensuring they remain motivated to stay in school.
Encouraging School Attendance and Academic Growth
The school’s facelift and provision of educational materials have renewed interest in learning among children in the community.
Speaking on behalf of the elders and people of Otareso, Mr. Jonas Avademe noted that:
“Children will now be encouraged to go to school because of the improved school environment and the educational items provided. Parents who struggled to afford basic school materials have also been relieved of a major burden.”
He added that a well-structured classroom positively impacts academic performance, particularly in reading, writing, and mathematics.
“Good school interior and exterior design is a key factor in academic improvement and in enhancing the overall well-being of pupils. It also helps attract and retain the best teachers. We deeply appreciate the efforts of Jodeb Foundation.” – Mr. Avademe
A Growing School in Need of More Classrooms
While the improvements have been highly beneficial, the school still faces infrastructure challenges.
Mr. Nelson Ador, a teacher at the school, shared concerns about the increasing student population and the limited classroom space.
“The number of students attending school keeps growing, but the current building cannot accommodate them all. We urgently need additional classrooms to provide a comfortable learning environment for every child.”
He also called on stakeholders to support the establishment of a library and provide more teaching and learning materials, as well as playground equipment, to further enhance the standard of education in the community.
Donation of Educational Materials
As part of the support initiative, Jodeb Foundation provided a variety of essential school supplies, including:
📚 Educational materials for students and teachers
📖 A bookshelf to organize learning resources
🖊 Moveable marker boards for flexible teaching methods
🎽 Branded t-shirts for students to wear on Fridays
🎒 School bags for students to carry their materials
⚽ Playing materials to encourage recreation and physical activity
👐 Hand-washing bowls and eating plates to promote hygiene and nutrition
These resources will greatly enhance the learning experience and contribute to better academic performance among students.
