Transforming Lives Through Access to Education
In Tove-Wupko, a remote village in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region, access to basic education remains a significant challenge. Currently, there is no preschool in the community, leaving children between the ages of three (3) to five (5) without a nearby school.
Children as young as three are forced to walk five milesβone wayβto Yorkitikpo, the nearest community with a school. This situation has led to declining school enrollment, health risks, and an increasing educational disparity compared to children in better-served areas.
Recognizing this urgent need, Jodeb Foundation, in collaboration with community representatives, has initiated the Tove-Wupko Preschool Building Project. This initiative aims to construct a preschool facility that will provide a safe, conducive, and accessible learning environment for children in the community.
Community Engagement & Project Status
The elders and people of Tove-Wupko have shown their full support for this initiative, volunteering their time and labor to assist with construction. The district assembly has granted approval, and the project is already underway.
However, funds for the project have been exhausted, making it crucial to raise additional resources to complete the school.
The Problem: Challenges Faced by the Tove-Wupko Community
1οΈβ£ Declining Education Rates β Without a nearby preschool, many children are denied access to early childhood education.
2οΈβ£ Health Concerns β Walking ten miles daily (to and from school) poses serious health risks, including fatigue, dehydration, and physical strain, negatively impacting learning.
3οΈβ£ Harsh Learning Conditions β Education cannot thrive in an unconducive environment. Young children require safe, structured classrooms to learn effectively.
4οΈβ£ Lack of Basic Educational Supplies β Many families in the community cannot afford school materials, further widening the educational gap.
5οΈβ£ Educational Disparity β There is a significant gap between children in urban areas with easy school access and those in rural communities like Tove-Wupko, where education is often out of reach.
The Solution: Building a Preschool to Secure the Future
To address these pressing issues, Jodeb Foundation and the Tove-Wupko community have embarked on the construction of a preschool facility that will:
π« Provide quality early childhood education β Offering structured learning for children between ages 3 to 5 years.
π± Prioritize early childhood development β Ensuring children get a strong foundation that will shape their academic and personal growth.
πΉ Reduce school dropout rates β By making education more accessible and child-friendly.
πΉ Improve literacy and numeracy levels β Through a better learning environment and quality teaching materials.
πΉ Support holistic child development β Addressing health, nutrition, and protection needs, alongside education.
π Invest in long-term community success β Quality early childhood education is one of the most cost-effective investments for a brighter future.
Project Objectives
β Construct a two-unit classroom block to accommodate preschool children.
β Establish a staff room for teachers to enhance learning delivery.
β Build a store room for safe storage of school materials.
β Provide a restroom facility for hygiene and sanitation.
β Furnish classrooms with teaching and learning materials.
β Improve early childhood literacy, numeracy, and social development.
